Stamford Bridge – FA Cup
Manchester United came back down to earth with a bump on Tuesday night, and head to Stamford Bridge to face crisis club Chelsea in this FA Cup preview. Blues boss Maurizio Sarri looks like he’s fighting for his job in this rerun of last season’s final, while it’s another test of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s credentials.

Neither of these teams look particularly solid at the back. Chelsea suffered their biggest ever Premier League defeat last weekend, while there are question marks over a number of United’s defenders. The sides shared four goals at Stamford Bridge earlier this season, with both teams to score at 7/10 with William Hill as part of the best football betting tips for this game. You can add United as the winners to that for 11/2 with the same bookmaker. A 2-1 away win is priced at 11/1 in your football score predictions for Monday night.
Man United to win and both teams to score
Eden Hazard settled last season’s FA Cup final between these sides. Chelsea’s No.10 is a world-beater when he turns it on, and his manager needs a big performance here. The Belgian has 15 goals so far this season and is 5/1 with bet365 to add to that with the opener on Monday. Hazard is 7/4 in the anytime market, and 29/1 to get the only goal of the game like he did in last season’s Wembley showpiece.
Eden Hazard to score first
With defensive frailties and plenty of attackers capable of taking advantage, we could be in for a few goals here. With that in mind, over 3.5 goals is 11/5 with Betfred as part of your football predictions for today. A repeat of the 2-2 draw from earlier this season is 12/1 with the same bookie, rising to 80/1 if you add Gonzalo Higuain as the first scorer. That would send the tie into extra-time, with the prospect of a penalty shoot priced at 9/2.

Callum Hudson-Odoi and Gary Cahill are both expected to be fit for these Chelsea vs Man United predictions, which means Blues boss Sarri has a full complement of players to choose from. If we discount forgotten man Marco van Ginkel, that is. Sarri gave a few of his squad members a run out at Sheffield Wednesday in the last round, giving Hazard a rest. Surely the Belgian will feature in this huge game though.

Neither Jesse Lingard or Anthony Martial appeared for the second half of United’s Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain in midweek. The pacy duo both suffered muscle injuries and look set to miss this game. Interim Red Devils boss Solskjaer also has injuries in defence. Marcos Rojo, Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian are all out, with Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof competing for the two centre-back berths.
Chelsea vs Man United prediction, preview and betting tips
The tie of the fifth round sees two teams with a combined 20 FA Cup triumphs come together on Monday. It’s a big game for both managers, for different reasons. Maurizio Sarri needs a reaction from his players after their humbling defeat at Manchester City, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will also look for a response in these football predictions following his first defeat as United’s caretaker manager.
Sarri’s preparations aren’t helped by a trip to Sweden on Thursday, with Chelsea in Europa League action against Malmo. The Blues boss has suffered two huge defeats in recent weeks, going down 4-0 at Bournemouth before the 6-0 massacre at the Etihad. With his methods under intense scrutiny, Sarri needs a win here.
Chelsea will be buoyed by their victory over United in last season’s FA Cup final, as well as their late point at Stamford Bridge earlier this term. They also put their Manchester rivals out of the cup the season before, and thumped Huddersfield Town 5-0 in their last home game. Home advantage has been crucial in this fixture, with October’s 2-2 draw ending a run of five straight home wins between the sides.
United meanwhile finally remembered what losing is like this week. The Red Devils were unfortunate with injuries during their game against PSG, but fell to their first defeat since mid-December against the French champions. The Old Trafford outfit have been excellent under Solskjaer though, and PSG are a cut above Chelsea. United also put in an excellent counter-attacking display away to Arsenal in the last round of the cup.
However, the Reds will be without two of their scorers at the Emirates, Lingard and Martial. That won’t help their chances on Monday. With that said, United have been in fine form recently, winning 10 of their 12 games under Solskjaer. They’ve moved ahead of Chelsea in the Premier League table, and will fancy their chances against the under-fire Blues.
That’s why we’re backing the visitors in your Chelsea vs Man United betting tips, at 5/2. The Blues still have plenty of talent in their ranks though, so we expect this to be a tight game. United are 4/1 with Betfair to win it by one goal, and heap further pressure on Sarri.
Chelsea vs Man United first goalscorer predictions
Gonzalo Higuain is the 9/2 favourite to open the scoring in this match. The Argentine hit a brace on his last appearance at Stamford Bridge, and needs to produce on Monday. With United’s injuries and an ineffective display from Alexis Sanchez in midweek, Marcus Rashford is likely to start this game. He has 10 goals so far this season and is 7/1 in the first goalscorer odds.
