Etihad Stadium – Premier League

The big games keep coming thick and fast as we look ahead to this weekend’s action in your Man City vs Chelsea prediction. Pep Guardiola’s side have risen above Liverpool to the top of the table, although they’re likely to be back down to second by the time this Premier League preview kicks off.

Score prediction: Man City 3-0 Chelsea

Top tips

Before their loss at Stamford Bridge earlier this season, City won three in a row against Chelsea without conceding a goal. The Citizens have kept seven clean sheets in their last nine games, while Chelsea were awful in their last away game. You can bet against both teams to score predictions at 31/40, while City are 2/1 with Betfair to win this game to nil. Teams have generally figured out how Chelsea play and we fancy City to capitalise on that with a comfortable 3-0 victory, which is priced at 11/1.

Sergio Aguero bagged a brace against Chelsea in this season’s Community Shield, as City won 2-0. The Argentite is on fire at the moment, scoring after just 46 seconds against Arsenal in City’s last home game. That followed a strike after just 24 seconds against Newcastle United the game before. Aguero is 16/5 with Betfair to open the scoring, and 19/20 in the anytime market. He is 33/1 to net first in a 3-0 home win.

City are the favourites here, but they’ve shown in the last couple of months they are fallible. Chelsea beat them earlier this season, and won 3-1 at the Etihad the season before last. The title race has been topsy-turvy in recent weeks, and the visitors are 50/1 with Betway to repeat the score from their last away victory over City. It’s 205/1 with Gonzalo Higuain scoring first, while the Argentine is 25/1 to score first in any Chelsea win.

Pep Guardiola only has injuries at the back coming into these Man City vs Chelsea predictions. Vincent Kompany remains sidelined for the foreseeable future, while Benjamin Mendy suffered a reaction in his knee on his comeback last month. He’ll be given as much time as he needs, while back-up goalkeeper Claudio Bravo is City’s final absentee.

Maurizio Sarri also has a couple of defensive injuries, although they are to reserve players. Gary Cahill – who rejected a move away from Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window – has a lower back injury, while Emerson Palmieri is expected to be fit after a knock. Callum Hudson-Odoi is also a doubt due to illness, after he came back into the fold last weekend.

Man City vs Chelsea prediction, preview and betting tips

We all expected Manchester City to be seven points behind Liverpool little more than a week ago. Instead, the champions come into this weekend’s round of Premier League fixtures top of the table. Liverpool have Bournemouth at home on Saturday so are likely to regain top spot, but City’s points in the bag are crucial.

Chelsea meanwhile managed to raise spirits with a convincing 5-0 victory over Huddersfield last weekend. Not everyone’s convinced by Maurizio Sarri and his methods though. The Terriers could turn out to have one of the worst Premier League seasons ever, and Chelsea were thrashed 4-0 at Bournemouth in their last away game. In fact, it’s three away defeats in a row for the west Londoners. They lost to Arsenal in the league and Tottenham in the Carabao Cup before their humiliation at the Vitality Stadium.

City have responded in the best fashion to their recent surprising defeat at Newcastle. They outclassed Arsenal last weekend, before showing their ability to grind out the wins against Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday. They had that game due to their League Cup final appearance later this month. Liverpool will make up their game in hand on City the same day as the Wembley showpiece away to Manchester United.

Sunday’s game is a dress rehearsal for the Carabao Cup final. With City looking like they’re back on song, it could be a chance for the home team to strike a real psychological blow. The Citizens are in superb form at the Etihad, where they’ve won 13 of their last 14 Premier League fixtures. Incredibly, they’ve scored at least two goals in every single one of those 14 matches. If they do so again, they’ll set a new record in the competition.

Coupled with Chelsea losing their last four games away games at fellow ‘big six’ sides, it’s why we’re backing the hosts to win and over 2.5 goals in this game. That’s 11/10 with Betway in your Man City vs Chelsea betting tips, improving your odds on the home win. If you think there’s going to be more goals in the football score predictions, City are 5/2 to win with over 3.5 goals.

Man City vs Chelsea first goalscorer predictions

Only Sergio Aguero has scored more times for City this season than Raheem Sterling. The England forward has 10 goals to go with his nine assists. None of his team mates have more than that. Sterling is 11/2 to break the deadlock on Sunday. Gonzalo Higuain opened his Chelsea account with a brace against Huddersfield last weekend, including the game’s first goal. The Argentinian striker has been criticised for his performances in big games in the past. He’ll be looking to make his mark here and is 9/1 in the first goalscorer odds.
